Non-invasive laser treatment techniques can improve quality of vision without injuring the eye. The most popular of them are used by doctors at Okomedikas Clinic in Cherkasy.

Laser Trabeculoplasty

The guiding principle of the operation is using a focused laser beam for treatment of the drainage system of an eye. This facilitates the drainage of fluid, thus reducing the pressure and slowing the development of glaucoma.

There are two types of laser trabeculoplasty:

  • argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT);
  • selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT).

SLT uses a low power laser, unlike ALT, and has much fewer contraindications and implications. The effect of SLT is long-lasting and compares not only with ALT, but also with other non-invasive laser treatment techniques.

Laser Trabeculoplasty for Glaucoma

This surgery is for the people whose glaucoma is getting worse despite drug treatment. It is usually conducted prior to any other surgical interventions.

Laser Eye Surgery Technique
A doctor places anesthetizing drops in the patient` s eyes. When your eye is numb, a special microscope and a lens are used to direct a laser beam at drainage canals. The surgeon makes small burns in the trabecular meshwork, increasing outflow of fluid from the eye.

The Postoperative Period
Another characteristic of non-invasive laser treatment is that the operation takes place in a single day, and the patient does not need hospitalization. Two hours after the surgery, an eye doctor will check your intraocular pressure and administer further treatment. You may experience increased light sensitivity, but it passes quickly.

In about 75% of patients who have not had glaucoma surgery before, the intraocular pressure is in the normal range again. The patients continue to take their high blood pressure drugs as prescribed by their eye doctor, but in smaller numbers.

Prophylactic Laser Photocoagulation in Peripheral Retinal Degenerations

This operation is good for treatment of retinal dystrophy. It helps strengthen the peripheral retina, prevents retinal detachment and preserves vision.

Damaged parts of the retina are laser soldered to the underlying tissues around tears. The procedure prevents retinal detachment and speeds up blood circulation inside the eye. This non-invasive method is completely painless, and in a couple of hours you can go home feeling no discomfort whatsoever.

The non-invasive laser treatment techniques are successfully used by eye specialists of Okomedikas Clinic in Cherkasy.

We offer you the opportunity to undergo a comprehensive eye examination with the help of the latest diagnostic equipment and receive medical advice on how to restore your eyesight. We will also take good care of you during and after your surgery.

Non-invasive Laser Treatment

Natalia Ivanivna, 58 years old

“I came to the Clinic with a detached retina. First of all, they examined my eyes and vision thoroughly using an eye exam machine. Then they performed laser photocoagulation of the retina and instilled some eye medications. I liked the level of service. The staff is professional and attentive. I`m feeling much better now.”
